Kuala Lumpur, 2 March 2018

In conjunction with the 13th UFI Asia Pacific Conference 2018, the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and the venue host, the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), one of UFI’s members, hosted a welcome reception for delegates and guests last night.

The international gathering was treated to an evening of colours, sound, sight, palate and senses of Malaysia; from a kaleidoscope of multi-cultural performance to traditional handicraft activities such as henna painting, calligraphy, tarot card reading and batik-painting, with the latter enticing guests to try their hand at creating their own handwork to take home as a souvenir. The distinguished guests also experienced a Lion Dance Eye Dotting ceremony in celebration of the Chinese New Year Festival.

Over the past 13 editions, the Conference organised by UFI (Union des Foires Internationales), has been the most important gathering of Asian exhibition industry leaders. This fast-paced, two day event in Kuala Lumpur this year is geared towards providing industry updates and insights from across the region, combined with quality networking and unique cultural experiences.

According to Kai Hattendorf, Managing Director, UFI “A lot has changed since the last time we were here in Kuala Lumpur but I believe a huge testament of that change is the very place we are at tonight. Beautiful new venue and the process of opening and as I just shared with the Minister many of you are very kind to say that the venue, this building, the spirit, the drive from the association side, the policy implemented from the Government are showing huge effect and putting Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia on the map for future growth in exhibition and business events sector.”

“MITEC is honoured to be the host venue for the UFI Welcome Reception and showcase Malaysia’s largest iconic trade and exhibition space that provides the UFI delegates with an opportunity to network in an environment where “ingenuity meets business,” said Gunther Beissel, Chief Executive Officer, MITEC.

The momentous event was graced by the Minister of Tourism and Culture Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz and supported by a number of important Malaysian organisations including MyCEB who hosted the highly interactive “Spice Market”.
